Important Information

On the Day of the Test

  • You will need to bring a government-issued ID with photo and signature (Texas Driver’s License, DPS ID card, passport, military ID card, Mexico Consular Matricula) AND proof of Texas residency in your name (a bill, insurance card, etc.).

  • You may only bring your ID’s and your car keys into the building.

  • LEAVE cell phones, calculators, purses, jewelry, watches, sunglasses, hats, scarves at home or in your vehicle.

  • During inclement weather, coats and umbrellas are allowed but not in the testing room.

  • No food/drink is allowed in the building. However, a water bottle is permissible. If you need a snack during a scheduled break, you must return to your vehicle to eat it there.

  • All tests must be started at least one hour before closing. Photo ID is required.

  • Do not bring your own calculator. We provide them for all testers.

Test Description

The GED exam is comprised of 4 sections:

  • Reasoning Through Language Arts (RLA) (155 minutes)

  • Mathematical Reasoning (120 minutes)

  • Science (95 minutes)

  • Social Studies (​75 minutes)

  • The GED test is offered on computer in English and Spanish.

Passing Scores

A minimum score of 145 must be made on each section. Scores will be available online at a student’s MYGED account at soon after testing.

Age Requirement

  • Candidates age 18 or over may take the GED test.

  • 17-year-old candidates will be instructed to provide 2 additional forms electronically when registering (parental permission form & GED’s Test Administration Withdrawal Form).

  • 16- year-olds must provide a court order specifically ordering them to take the GED exam. Documents must be provided electronically.

Educational Status

Candidates must be officially withdrawn from school, and must not have received a high school diploma from an accredited high school in the U.S.

Advisory Against Misleading Claims

The GED Tests are administered in Texas only at approved Pearson Vue testing centers under the direction of the Texas Education Agency GED Unit. Any other high school equivalency certificates not issued by TEA or another jurisdictional testing authority may be of dubious value and may not be accepted by employers, colleges, universities, or the military.
