AP Program  (Advanced Placement Program)

Students completing AP courses in high school may elect to take one or more of the exams in an effort to attain college level academic credit.   Tests are criterion reference because the student is measured against a predetermined standard in each area tested. The exams are offered at all Frisco ISD high schools and registration is held on each campus in the spring semester. AP tests available to be administered by the high schools include:

The AP Program offers several Scholar Awards to recognize high school students who have demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams. Although there is no monetary award, in addition to receiving an award certificate, this achievement is acknowledged on any grade report that is sent to colleges the following fall.  The awards are:

AP Award

Description of the Student

AP Scholar

Received grades of 3 or higher on 3 or more AP Exams.

AP Scholar with Honor

Received an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on 4 or more of these exams.

AP Scholar with Distinction

Received an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on 5 or more of these exams.

AP State Scholar

Granted to the one male and one female student in each U.S. state and the District of Columbia with grades of 3 or higher on the greatest number of AP Exams and then the highest average grade (at least 3.5) on all AP Exams taken.

National AP Scholar

Students in the United States who receive an average grade of at least 4 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 4 or higher on 8 or more of these exams.

AP Exam grades are reported on a 5-point scale as follows:

5 - Extremely well qualified*
4 - Well qualified*
3 - Qualified*
2 - Possibly qualified*
1 - No recommendation**

*Qualified to receive college credit or advanced placement
**No recommendation to receive college credit or advanced placement
